
Scientist for developing XAI methods (f_m_x)

We are looking for a researcher focusing on developing novel explainable AI methods for the open-source Explainable AI system called "ClarifAI," which is being developed in the GFZ research group BigData Analytics. The open-source system "ClarifAI" supports scientists in producing reliable and tractable AI methods by combining XAI methods (extracting meaningful information from AI systems) with interactive visualization methods. The position offers researchers the opportunity to increase the credibility of using AI systems in science and the public and to advance AI to a human-friendly level.
Your responsibilities:
- Develop novel XAI methods addressing XAI challenges of Earth and environmental scientists and extend the current state of "ClarifAI"
- Collaborate with scientists at national and international levels to facilitate research and development activities for "ClarifAI"
- Develop research visions and proposals for securing research grants from national and international funding agencies to strengthen research and development activities for "ClarifAI"
To apply for the position, applicants should have proven experience in routinely using concepts and methods from Visual Analytics and XAI and adopting these concepts and methods to new scenarios and challenges. The open-source Explainable AI system "ClarifAI" has a modular design. Applicants should have a proven record of routinely developing large-scale software systems based on message-passing and remote procedure calls (RPC) architectures.
Your qualifications:
- Master`s degree or equivalent in computer science
- Proven record of using the Python programming language, Typescript, Vuejs/Vuetify, Openlayers, and D3 fluently and independently
- Proven record of applying computer science concepts and paradigms to novel challenges and scenarios
- Proven record of conducting research work in interdisciplinary settings
- An open mind for collaborative research and developing XAI and interactive visualization methods for crucial XAI challenges of scientists

Fixed-term: 3 years
Salary: The position is classed as salary group 13 according to “TVöD Bund (Tarifgebiet Ost)”. The salary group is determined on the basis of the Collective Wage Agreement and the respective personal qualifications.
Working hours: Full-time (currently 39 h/week); The position is generally suitable for part-time work.
