Wolfgang Wahlster receives honorary doctorate from the University of Oldenburg

Wolfgang Wahlster, founding director of the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence and member of the GFZ Board of Trustees receives honorary doctorate.

Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Wolfgang Wahlster, founding director of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) and member of the GFZ’s Board of Trustees, was recently awarded an honorary doctorate by the Faculty of Computer Science, Economics and Law at the University of Oldenburg. Professor Wahlster is "one of the world's most renowned AI researchers," Lower Saxony's Minister of Science Björn Thümler praised the researcher at the award ceremony in Oldenburg's State Theater. Wolfgang Wahlster has been a member of the GFZ Board of Trustees since August 2019. He studied computer science and theoretical linguistics at the University of Hamburg, where he received his PhD in 1981. From 1982 to 2018, he taught and conducted research as a professor of computer science at Saarland University. In 1988, he founded the DFKI, which he headed until 2019 and which he is still supporting as advisor.
