At the 87th General Assembly of the German National Research and Education Network (DFN), PD Dr. Wolfgang zu Castell, Director of Department 5: Geoinformation and CIO of GFZ, was elected to the DFN administrative committee.

The DFN Association operates the German Science Network (X-WiN), which acts as the central IT network for the entire German scientific community. Universities, colleges and non-university research institutions are connected to it. The DFN is also the connecting link within the international network of national research networks and offers various services to support its members.

The administrative committee of the DFN Association is the extended Executive Board, from which the three-member Executive Board is elected. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Stefan Wesner from the University of Cologne was elected as the new board member.
