The Association of Friends and Supporters of the GFZ - FFGFZ honors Jeffrey Paulo H. Perez with the Friedrich-Robert-Helmert-Award 2020 for the best doctoral dissertation

The Friedrich-Robert-Helmert Award of the Association of Friends and Supporters of the GFZ - FFGFZ is rewarded for the best doctoral dissertation of the year at the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences.

This year the prize was awarded to Jeffrey Paulo H. Perez for his doctoral dissertation "Green rust formation and reactivity with arsenic species". Among other things, his research results provide a basis for the rehabilitation of arsenic-contaminated soil and groundwater.

Perez, from the Interface Geochemistry Section, was supervised by Liane G. Benning and defended his doctoral thesis with summa cum laude at the Freie Universität Berlin in January 2020. Together with the prize money and a Certificate, Perez will also receive a one-year honorary membership in the FFGFZ.
