Tokyo: Prof. Friedhelm von Blanckenburg,Head of GFZ section Earth Surface Geochemistry, is one of four members of a delegation of the Leopoldina, the National Academy of Sciences, that participates in preparing the science statement for the upcoming G7 Summit of the heads of governments.

17.02.2016|Tokyo: Prof. Friedhelm von Blanckenburg,Head of GFZ section Earth Surface Geochemistry, is one of four members of a delegation of the Leopoldina, the National Academy of Sciences, that participates in preparing the science statement for the upcoming G7 Summit of the heads of governments.

The statements called the G7 Science Papers will be the basis for discussion of the G7 heads of governments. It addresses urgent issues that arise from newest findings in science and aims at placing these topics onto the political agenda and to derive concrete actions. The statement is prepared on the G-Science Meeting from 17 to 18 February in Tokyo, Japan. Prof. von Blanckenburg is an expert of the delegation led by Prof. Jörg Hacker, president of the Leopoldina, and will participate in the scientific negotiations.

The delegation prepares three statements on the topics: 1) Strengthening Disaster Resilience for Sustainable Development, 2) Understanding, Protecting and Developing Global Brain Resources, 3) Nurturing Good Scientists for the Future. Prof. von Blanckenburg represents statement 1. This statement addresses how societies can become resilient to natural and technical disasters.

The national academies of all G7 member states will be represented. Friedhelm von Blanckenburg is a member of Leopoldina since 2009 and in this function was appointed as a member of the delegation. Already in 2012 he was member of the G Science delegation in Washington.
