07.02.2017: Tilo Schöne, GFZ section Global Geomonitoring and Gravity Field, is part of the editing team of the “Manual on Sea Level – Measurement and Interpretation“ of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission IOC of the UNESCO. The manual is volume five in a series and deals with radar tide gauges for sea-level monitoring.
The IOC is a body within the UNESCO and is the only competent organization for marine science within the UN system. The Manual on Sea Level focusses on the reliability of radar tide gauges and their data, especially for long-term sea level change studies.
Tilo Schöne is part of the editing team as an expert on the topic of Global Navigation Satellite Systems. He is Chair of the Tide Gauge Benchmark Monitoring Working Group of the International GNSS Service, IGS, and coordinates the establishment of the geodetic reference frame for GNSS-controlled (GNSS = Global Navigation Satellite System) tide gauge measurements. His GFZ research group "Geodetic Hazard Monitoring“ was involved in the installation of the GNSS-controlled tide gauges for the Tsunami Early Warning System for the Indian Ocean, GITEWS. (ak)
