Personalia | GFZ Prize for Senior Scientists awarded to Sebastian Hainzl

Every year the GFH honors outstanding scientists with the GFZ Prize for Senior Scientists. The Senior Scientist Price for 2016 is awarded to Sebastian Hainzl, GFZ section Physics of Earthquakes and Volcanoes. Anja Maria Schleicher GFZ section Inorganic and Isotope Geochemistry, is awarded with the price for young scientists.

05.05.2017: Every year the GFH honors outstanding scientists with the GFZ Prize for Senior Scientists. The Senior Scientist Price for 2016 is awarded to Sebastian Hainzl, GFZ section Physics of Earthquakes and Volcanoes. Anja Maria Schleicher GFZ section Inorganic and Isotope Geochemistry, is awarded with the price for young scientists.

Sebastian Hainzl holds a PhD in Physics and came to the GFZ in 2007. He is a lecturer at the University of Potsdam, where he qualified as a professor in 2011. He receives the prize for his „continous and outstanding scientific achievements in the field of statistic seismology and physics of earthquakes as well as his section-spanning scientific activity“.

Anja Maria Schleicher came to the GFZ in 2015 where she established the analytical method x-ray diffractometry on clay minerals. She holds a PhD in Geology and is laboratory head of her sections’s laboratory for X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometry (XRF). She is awarded with the prize „for her exzellent scientific work, high publication output and the short-term initiation of a strong research programme as well as an outstanding technical support of her section”.

Further prizes went to Katy Unger-Shayesteh (science management), Mary Lavin-Zimmer (administration), Markus Reich (technology), and Kay Mira Le (apprenticees). (ak)
