Seismic Observations for the UNderground Development

In this project, new exploration methods in underground construction are developed, tested and adapted to the specific needs of this environment. Up-to-date processing, imaging and inversion technologies will be implemented into construction processes and used to monitor existing structures. The project is focusing at the tomographic evaluation of exploration ahead of and around undergorund construction sites. Exploration ahead of construction sites makes use of the drilling noise of operating tunnel boring machines. Exploration around existing structures uses vibro-seismic broadband sources. The acquired data sets using these two approaches will then be evaluated using reflection, surface wave and full waveform tomography. Currently already existing exploration technologies will be optimised to become available for a broad range of undergound geotechnical investigations.
