Visit of the French Ambassador at GFZ

Prof. Hüttl received in the archive of the library at the Telegrafenberg H.E. the French ambassador Philippe Etienne. The ambassador was accompanied by the scientific attaché of the French Embassy Dr. Jean-Jacques Pierrat. Prof. Hüttl gave in his talk an overview on the research at the GFZ. In the second part of his presentation he explained the objectives and the work of the German National Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech). Prof. Hüttl is at the present the president of acatech.

The French Ambassador showed himself impressed by the quality and the scope of the geoscientific research at GFZ. Concrete examples of German-French science cooperation at GFZ were presented than by Prof. Shprits and Prof. Cotton. Yuri Shprits explained in his presentation the research in magnetospheric physics and the understanding of the magnetic field of the Earth. Fabrice Cotton presented in his talk results and perspectives of the collaboration between GFZ and French teams in seismic hazard evaluation. He demonstrated newest research, resulting from the current seismic events in Italy. 

Common French-German research and cooperation fields were finally discussed by the participants. All partners will continue in the upcoming weeks the in depth-discussion, with the aim to develop further bilateral research projects.
