The central task of the Purchasing Department is the cost-effective supply of all goods and services to support science and administration the GFZ. A particular challenge is to reconcile the requirements of science, research and education with the operational needs of the GFZ.In addition, the department is responsible for managing the warehouse, distribution of goods within the Geo Research Center, and organizing national and international shipments of goods.
As a public contracting authority, "purchasing" means awarding contracts according to public procurement regulations meaning that we pay special attention to economic use of public funds. Sustainability is an important element of our procurement strategy.We ensure that human rights are respected and that we consider the environmental impact of our actions. We pay attention to transparency, nondiscrimination and the consideration of the interests of small and medium-sized enterprises.
We procure and move goods worth approx. 30 million € /year. From office equipment, IT hardware and software to measuring equipment, from civil engineering to building construction, everything is handled by the Purchasing Department.
