Research Interests:

My background is in remote sensing and earth observation and that is also my main interest. I am fascinated by the opportunities remote sensing gives to explore, monitor and assess our Earth.

Currently, I am looking at European forest and their state. I combined a number of existing Earth Observation forest products to create a European Forest4model data cube that describes the current state of European forests. Following this, I am interested in forest structural diversity and changes, how this influences forest biodiversity and ecosystem functions, is impacted by forest disturbances and climate change in general and how this translate to carbon stock changes. 

For 5 years, I studied permafrost landscapes dynamics and disturbances at the Alfred Wegener Insitute. My main focus was to assess the temporal dimension of permafrost disturbances, their occurrence and disturbance dynamics, and permafrost temperature changes. For this, I worked with Landsat and Sentinel-2 imagery, global Essential Climate Variable time-series data, disturbance detection algorithms, time-series and multivariate analysis methods.

I am also interested in exploring new remote sensing data acquisition methods such as imaging drones or mobile Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) options. I acquired and worked with multispectral drone imagery and a LiDAR BackPack to acquire ground truthing and comparison data for satellite-based remote sensing products.
