Function and Responsibilities:

I am a senior researcher at GFZ section "Geodynamic Modeling", group leader "Tsunami Hazard Assessment and Early Warning".

In addition, a significant part of my daily activities is dedicated to the coordination and integration of the European tsunami community -- I am a Coordinator of the Thematic Core Services Tsunami within EPOS ERIC (European Plate Observation System Research Infrastructure Consortium, https://www.epos-eu.org).

Research Interests:

Since the Great 2004 Sumatra earthquake and Indian Ocean mega-tsunami, my main research and development interests are in the field of application of numerical modelling for tsunami hazard assessment and early warning. That catastrophic tsunami collected more than 230 000 lives, called for the need of reliable early warning and triggered numerous national and international initiatives to increase society preparedness and resilience against future tsunamis. Being involved in these projects allows me to provide my own contribution to the global tsunami risk reduction. Specifically, my prime interest in this field includes:

• Subduction zone dynamics and seismogenesis
  
• Using real-time GNSS for fast seismic rupture inversion
• Fast seismic source modeling for tsunami early warning
• Fast tsunami propagation and coastal impact modeling
• Long-term tsunami hazard and risk assessment: methodology and practice
• (Probabilistic) tsunami forecasting and early warning

Regarding projects, I would first of all mention GITEWS (German-Indonesian Tsunami Early Warning System, https://www.gitews.de) -- R&D project that was GFZ flagship for several years.

As mentioned at the top, I am coordinating the construction and development of the Thematic Core Services "Tsunami" (also https://tsunamidata.org) within the EPOS ERIC virtual research infrastructure consortium (https://www.epos-eu.org/), whose mission is to provide access to high-quality FAIR services to scientific community and beyond.

I am among founding members of the Global Tsunami Model (GTM) initiative.

• MULTI-MAREX (DFG) -- A living lab for improved forecasting and possible actions for multiple extreme geomarine events
• DT-GEO (Horizon Europe) -- A Digital Twin for GEOphysical extremes
• Geo-INQUIRE ((Horizon Europe) -- Provides to the scientific community virtual and transnational access (VA and TA) to about 150 installations hosted by 51 consortium partners
• EPOS-ON (Horizon Europe) -- EPOS Optimization and EvolutioN is a project dedicated to strengthen and evolve the EPOS Research Infrastructure
• PCTWIN (UK-IND) -- People-centered Tsunami Early Warning in India
• Makran-PTHA (UNESCAP) -- Probabilistic Tsunami Hazard Assessment in the Arabian Sea, Red Sea, and Persian Gulf
