Horizon Europe

Horizon Europe, the successor to Horizon 2020, is the 9th EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation and the largest single funding programme for research and innovation worldwide. Around 95.5 billion euros (in current prices) are available for the funding period 2021 - 2027.

The objectives of the programme are:

  • support the development of a knowledge and innovation-based society and a competitive economy;
  • to implement the political guidelines of the European Commission
  • and in particular to accelerate the digital and green transformation in Europe.

For GFZ scientists, the funding programmes under Pillar 1 (Scientific Excellence) and Pillar 2 (Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness, Clusters 3 to 6) are of particular interest.
