Geo-risks, and especially earthquakes, threaten every year millions of people across a rapidly changing world.
Assessing seismic risk in terms of expected consequences to the communities exposed is a difficult and fascinating challenge, involving very different expertise and experience.
A sound and reliable assessment of all the components of the broader risk-chain is of paramount importance for designing efficient mitigation actions, thus improving the resilience of the exposed communities.
I´m devoting my skills, collected throughout a cross-disciplinary working experience, to devising new approaches and methodologies to consistently, continuously and reliably model and validate exposure, vulnerability and risk (loss) models in the framework of natural hazards.
A particular focus of my research lines is on the collection and integration of multi-source information (for instance combining remote sensing and ground-based surveys) and the probabilistic modelling of physical and societal exposure and vulnerability models over multiple spatial and temporal scales.
I´m also exploring how these research findings can be distilled in order to provide end-users and stakeholders with useful, efficient and viable tools, in order to further improve Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) policies, also in the framework of multiple hazard / multiple risk early warning and rapid response.
