Function and Responsibilities:

Head of Potsdam SIMS Facility:
  • Long-term lab planning and instrument development
  • Planning and scheduling of SIMS access
  • Developing new geochemical analytical methods and applications
  • Characterization of new quality control and reference materials
  • Teaching PhD level annual short course on SIMS
  • Leading the global remote SIMS network initiative

Research Interests:

My main interest is developing new microanalytical applications in order to solve questions in geochemistry, paleontology and environmental research and to advance data quality in these fields through improved metrology.  I have led the Potsdam SIMS user facility in pursuing a number of globally unique initiatives, including the establishment of a world-wide network for access to our instrument using remote SIMS technology -- currently being developed here in Potsdam.  Another focus of the Potsdam facility is improving SIMS technology by working closely with industry and the end user.  The Potsdam SIMS user base spans the entire planet, and this fits well with my desire to support the "internationalization" of science.
