My main interest is to investigate formation of new subduction zones in different tectonic settings. My tools are numerical simulations including 2d/3d finite element or finite difference models. I test different scenarios for subduction initiation using numerical models and compare the model results with  geological/geophysical/seismological evidence on the Earth. My current research, funded by German Research Foundation (DFG), is focused on formation of the subduction zone in the southwestern margin of Caribbean.
