microbial life in extreme environments such as deep biosphere (final repository, geothermal energy resources), permafrost or plastic-polluted soils

- reconstruction of microbial communities and their functional potential

- influence of microbes on their habitat

- effects of changing environmental conditions on microbial community structure and function
