Seismic Hazard Harmonization in Europe
SHARE, a collaborative project within the 7th Framework Program of the European Commission, aims at constructing a harmonized seismic hazard model for the Euro-Mediterranean region. It is based upon extensive collaboration between experts throughout the European-Mediterranean area. SHARE is one of the Regional Programmes of the GEM (Global Earthquake Model) providing essential input and feedback on all hazard assessment procedures and standards in Europe. The project started in June 2009 and will run for three and a half years until November 2012.
The responsibilities of section 2.6 are the following:
- Compilation of existing regional and national seismic source zones and construction of a harmonized areal seismic source zone model covering the SHARE project area.
- Delivering an updated Euro-Mediterranean earthquake catalogue with homogeneous magnitude calibration from 1900 on.
- Quality assurance procedures for the community-based, consensus probabilistic seismic hazard model for Europe.
