Seismic Hazard Assessment for the D-A-CH countries (Germany D, Austria A, Switzerland CH)

The seismic hazard assessment for the D-A-CH countries (Germany D, Austria A, and Switzerland CH) started in 1993 as an initiative from the GFZ Potsdam. The D-A-CH countries became then the test area for the Global Seismic Hazard Assessment Program (GSHAP) activities at the GSHAP Regional Centre - chaired by G. Grünthal - at the GFZ Potsdam.

Probability seismic hazard assessments were carried out, based on a joint earthquake catalogue for the study area and a common model of seismic source zones.

The calculated seismic hazard maps are precondition for the map of earthquake zones for the new German construction standard suitable for earthquakes and for engineering applications in Switzerland and Austria.
