The coming up project DESERVE addresses three ground challenges in the Dead Sea region:  

• Environmental risks,
• water availability and
• climate change.

The Dead Sea region as a part of the Levant has, seen in the long term, experienced strong and devasting earthquakes with a tremendous risk potential at the current time.The section will, together with project partners,  focus on the aspect of long-term time-dependent probabilistic hazard assessments. These can be used for seismic regulations as direct contribution for a sustainable risk reduction, for adequate risk management, and as input for a separate seismic risk study for certain towns in the area. The work will benefit from the extraordinary long and reliable earthquake catalogue data for the Levant (Grünthal & Wahlström, 2012).
