GFZ German research centre for geo sciences

Specialised Information Service for Geosciences

The library participates in the DFG project "Specialised Information Service for Geosciences (FID GEO)" in partnership with the SUB Göttingen.

FID GEO is a project that implements advanced information and publication services for the geoscientific community in Germany. FID GEO is funded by “Specialised Information Services Programme” of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), which establishes a number of discipline-specific “Specialised Information Services (Fachinformationsdienste, FID)” in Germany. FIDs supplement existing information infrastructures at universities and research institutions, providing additional services nationwide.

Project partners

  • Niedersächsische Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Göttingen (SUB Göttingen)
  • GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences

Tasks

SUB Göttingen focuses on digitization and electronic publication of so-called "grey literature" and digitization of other print products and maps not protected by German copyright. The main task of GFZ is to set up a service for the publication of research data (data related to traditional journal publications). Both project partners are proactive in providing advice to the geoscientific community, institutions, organisations and publishers regarding electronic publication to foster open access to scientific products including texts, research data, and software.
