Geodetic Observatory Wettzell

The Geodetic Observatory Wettzell is operated by the Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy (BKG). The station is located on a mountain ridge of Bavarian Forest, Germany. The mean annual precipitation amounts 820 mm and the mean annual temperature is 8 °C. The land use is characterised by grassland and forestry. The loamy-sandy soils are mainly brown soils (Cambisols), with porosities ranging from 25% to 50%. The geology is made up of Biotit-Gneiss which is partially fractured. The Gneiss is covered by a 5-10 m thick, weathered layer. The hydro-geological situation is characterised by a highly variable groundwater table with seasonal and event-based fluctuations of 3-4 m.
