Geomagnetic observatory data

GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences operates and supports geomagnetic observatories worldwide. We provide unique and important scientific data for the investigation of Earth's interior (Earth's core and mantle) and near-Earth space (ionosphere and magnetosphere), as well as for navigation, exploration and the monitoring of space weather. Our data are distributed in the framework of well-established international programs and global data centres, which are briefly described in the following.

INTERMAGNET is an international program to provide quality controlled geomagnetic observatory data through a website and an ftp-server. Both archive and near-real time data are provided. You can find more information on GFZ's contribution to the INTERMAGNET cooperation here.

The World Data Centre for Geomagnetism (Edinburgh) is giving access to definitive minute means, hourly means and annual means of geomagnetic observatories and is part of the World Data System established by International Council for Sciences (ICSU).

SuperMAG provides observatory data and time series from magnetometer stations as well as tools for data treatment and analysis.

Observatory Niemegk publishes Monthly Reports with details on magnetic activity and the occurrence of rapid geomagnetic variations like sudden storm commencements, solar flare effects and bay disturbances.

Real time and archive data for commercial companies and government agencies are provided on request. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding the scientific, operational and commercial use of our data.
