CO2RINA

The goal of the CO2RINA-project is to develop a universal concept for risk analysis of CCS projects. The implementation of numeric procedures and the demonstration of the operability of the new concept in a showcase scenario will provide a valuable tool for future CCS projects.

The concept adopts already existing risk analysis strategies. In addition, the new analysis procedure will integrate geological system parameters as well as technological settings. Potential CO₂-leakage volumes will be simulated.

The challenge for the CO2RINA-team will be to integrate various bio-geochemical effects and numerous combinations of migration processes to calculate the risk of CO₂ release into the near-surface and atmosphere. The CO2RINA-project will adapt the existing research results and pilot-site experiences to enable a valid risk analysis estimation procedure, tailored to the special needs and demands of CCS.
