The use of efficient, task-oriented and customized information technology (IT) is a prerequisite for the achievement of research objectives and the development of geoscientific research.
The section IT Services and Operation is the central institution responsible for the IT infrastructure and services at the GFZ. We provide a holistic infrastructure to enable user-friendly and cross-platform work and communication.
We provide a help desk for the central IT services. Employees of the GFZ can utilise the help desk via hotline, e-mail, and a web-based ticketing system.
In addition, we offer consultation and training on various topics.
We maintain IT infrastructure and services at the GFZ and assure their flawless operation. Efficient networking, dedicated and virtual servers, storage systems, high-performance computing, web services as well as databases and applications are provided for the employees of the GFZ.
We provide capabilities to exchange data with other scientific institutes and external project partners. Furthermore, we take care of the technical processing and data management.
For scientific collaborations, we provide web-based communication platforms.
We maintain various systems for storing data. By providing centralized archiving and backup capacity, long-term preservation of data and information is guaranteed.
