New faces at the GFZ - start of the training year 2022/2023

Every year on 1 September, GFZ welcomes new employees who will complete their training or their voluntary year.

Every year on 1 September, the German Research Centre for Geosciences Potsdam (GFZ) welcomes new employees who will complete their training or their voluntary year here. This year, these are two physics laboratory assistants, a chemistry laboratory assistant, a media and information services specialist and two dual students of information technology. In keeping with tradition, the new professional phase of life for the 10 new faces on the Telegrafenberg began with a joint introductory event and a tour of the campus, during which they were able to get to know not only the buildings of the GFZ but also the other buildings on the site that are relevant to the history of science.

GFZ as a training centre

Currently, a total of 28 trainees/dual students are learning and working at the GFZ in various fields. A research institute does not only need scientists. Employees from a wide range of disciplines - in laboratories, IT, administration, workshops - make a significant contribution to the success of our research and to our international reputation.

As a "top training company", the GFZ has qualified trainers and a special scientific and international working environment, modern equipment, excellent working conditions and the possibility of a worldwide internship abroad during the training. In addition, a dual course of study in information technology is offered in cooperation with the TH Brandenburg.

The FJN - getting to know a scientific research location

In addition to apprenticeships, the GFZ also offers four positions for volunteers. The "Voluntary Social Year in Science, Technology and Sustainability", which also begins on 01 September, is aimed at young people with an aptitude for science who are interested in research institutions and the professions represented there. At the GFZ, two volunteers are now working in the section "Climate Dynamics and Landscape Development" and two in public relations / in the school lab until 31 August of the coming year.

We warmly welcome all new employees!
