SUBITOP - Another EU training network coordinated at GFZ

On 1 March the international Innovative Training Network (ITN) SUBITOP „Understanding subduction zone topography through modelling of coupled shallow and deep processes“ is initiated. It is coordinated by Prof. Niels Hovius, GFZ section Geomorphology. SUBITOP is the third ITN coordinated at GFZ – an ITN is an EU funded framework for training and career development of young scientists.

01.03.2016: On 1 March the international Innovative Training Network (ITN) SUBITOP „Understanding subduction zone topography through modelling of coupled shallow and deep processes“ is initiated. It is coordinated by Prof. Niels Hovius, GFZ section Geomorphology. SUBITOP is the third ITN coordinated at GFZ – an ITN is an EU funded framework for training and career development of young scientists.

The research focus of SUBITOP is on linking the dynamics of European continental margins, where tectonic plates are recycled through subduction, with Earth’s topography. The Training Network aims at providing a comprehensive range of intimately linked field-, lab-, and numeric modelling techniques to its participants, shared among all participating parties.

Ten leading European centers of the Earth Sciences are partners in the network. Furthermore, the partnership includes 15 private sector partners like developers of measuring techniques. SUBITOP will also impart essential communication, outreach, and career management skills, and first-hand experience of the private sector. Within the project 15 positions are vacant, application closes on 1 July.
