Simona Regenspurg Editor-in-Chief of the journal "Geothermal Energy"

Priv. Doz. Dr. Simona Regenspurg  has been one of four editors-in-chief*inside the peer reviewed journal "Geothermal Energy - Science, Society and Technology" since August 2020. The Open Access journal specializes in fundamental and applied research on the development and integration of geothermal energy resources into future energy systems.

Simona Regenspurg is head of the working group "Geothermal Fluids" in section 4.8 "Geoenergy" at the German Research Center for Geosciences. She is involved in national and European projects on geochemical processes in geothermal systems. These include reactions under increased pressure and temperature conditions, interactions between water and rock and their effects on the environment. In the regional projects "Geothermal District Heating Supply in Berlin (GeoFern) and "Geothermal Utilization of Carbonate Rocks in the North German Basin (ATES IQ)" it analyzes the properties of geothermal fluids in order to develop new approaches to optimize geothermal energy production.

In addition to geological, geophysical and geochemical studies, the journal "Geothermal Energy" addresses topics such as the exploration of geothermal fields, the characterization and modeling of deposits, the development of productivity-enhancing methods and approaches for safe and economical plant operation. The journal is open to all scientific disciplines involved in geothermal projects. The publishers are the scientific institutions UFZ, GFZ and KIT, supported by professional associations and organizations such as the "International Geothermal Association" and the "Federal Geothermal Association".
