07.10.2014| Bogotá: On Ocober 6th, this year’s international GFZ training course “Seismology and Seismic Risk Assessment” started in Bogotá/Colombia.

25 participants from 19 Latin-American countries were invited to join this course, coming from Argentina, Bolivia, Brasil, Chile, Costa Rica, Dominica, Dom. Rep., Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, Jamaica, Cuba, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru, Trinidad, Uruguay, Venezuela, and Colombia. The aim of this course is a capacity building, providing the participants with profound knowledge on earthquake analysis, determining local effects, and methods for determining potentials of seismic threats. Participants will be enabled to install and run monitoring and early-warning systems within their countries. In the course of this international cooperation the connection of seismic monitoring systems is strengthened.

The Federal Foreign Office supports this training course financially. At the opening ceremony participants were welcomed by Mr. G. Schneider from the German Ambassy, Prof. T. Dahm from GFZ, and representatives from Universidad Nacional Bogota (UNAL) and Geological Service Colombia (SGC). Lecturers are from GFZ, University of Bergen, and from Colombia.
