Report | RawMaterials – Research on a sustainable use of georesources

The Innovation Community RawMaterial aims at adding to a sustainable use of georesources in Europe.

On 30 May, the annual meeting of the project RawMaterials, funded by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), took place in Berlin. The aim of the Innovation Community is to add to a sustainable use of georesources in Europe.

At the general assembly, representatives of all 123 European partners met to discuss the future strategic agenda of the EIT RawMaterials. The agenda will be agreed on at next year’s annual meeting. Topics discussed were impacts on society and the optimisation of tools and processes within the organisation.

Coordinating partner of RawMaterials headquater is the Helmholtz Centre Dresden-Rossendorf, further German partners are five research institutions including the GFZ, five business companies as well as five universities. Since 2018 the GFZ is partner of the project within the frame of its research and development activities in the research unit Georesources and Geoenergy. The GFZ activities are coordinated by Rüdiger Giese, GFZ Centre for Scientific Drillling. (ak)
