Maribel Núñez Valdez started a professorship for Atomistic modeling of (geo)materials research at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main.

Maribel Núñez Valdez, GFZ Section Chemistry and Physics of Earth materials, has started a W2 professorship for Atomistic modeling of (geo)materials research at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. This joint appointment is the first one between the GFZ and this university. Núñez Valdez will continue working at the GFZ and also engage in teaching at the Goethe University.

The researcher joined the GFZ within the framework of the Helmholtz program for excellent women in science in 2017. Previously, she completed her physics BSc and MSc in her native country Mexico and her physics graduate studies (MSc and PhD) at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, USA. After her PhD, she did postdoctoral research in Zürich, CH and Moscow, Russia.
