13.09.2017: Three scientists come to the GFZ with funding from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. Jessica Stanley, GFZ section Earth Surface Process Modelling, and Vasso Saltogianni, GFZ section Lithosphere Dynamics, are now Humboldt Postdoc Research Fellows. Yosuke Yamazaki, GFZ section Geomagnetism, receives the Humboldt Research Fellowship for Experienced Researchers. 

Jessica Stanley was awarded eight months of funding. Her research goal is to better understand the mechanisms influencing continental plateau uplift with special emphasis on the South African Plateau. She retraces the erosion history by combining landscape modeling with thermochronology, sedimentary flux analysis, and cosmogenic nuclide data.

Vasso Saltogianni has worked on new algorithms to record and model surface deformation at active plate boundaries during her PhD. Now her goal is to better understand how deep processes during subduction are linked to deformation in the crust like for example earthquakes. She received a Humboldt Fellowship for two years.

In October 2017, Yosuke Yamazaki starts his Humboldt fellowship, which has been granted to him for 22 months. Yamazaki has worked in Japan, the US, and the UK. His research focuses on the interaction between the atmosphere and the geomagnetic field.

Additionally to Humboldt fellows above, Robert Green from the GFZ section seismology receives funding from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation for two years until October 2019 . His research work deals with the processes occurring beneath the surface in volcanic regions and the plumbing systems that feed the volcanoes. At the moment he is studying the Klyuchevskoy volcano in Kamchatka, Russia. (jh)
