What are the effects of climate change in Germany? Bruno Merz, Head of the GFZ section Hydrology, is member of the editorial board of a book, published with open access by Springer Publishing, titled: „Klimawandel in Deutschland – Entwicklung, Folgen, Risiken und Perspektiven“ (Engl.: “Climate change in Germany – trends, effects, risks, and perspectives”). The book wants to comprehensively present for the first time the current state of research on climate change for all topics and all sectors of society, on a national basis. Merz is the editor of part two of the book with a focus on regional characteristics and extremes of climate change in Germany.

Bruno Merz, Head of the GFZ section Hydrology, is member of the editorial board of a book, published with open access by Springer Publishing, titled: „Klimawandel in Deutschland – Entwicklung, Folgen, Risiken und Perspektiven“ (Engl.: “Climate change in Germany – trends, effects, risks, and perspectives”). The book wants to comprehensively present for the first time the current state of research on climate change for all topics and all sectors of society, on a national basis. Merz is the editor of part two of the book with a focus on regional characteristics and extremes of climate change in Germany.

The book does not present new research results but analyses already published scientific knowledge and presents it in a generally understandable way. Bruno Merz is part of the editorial board because of his expertise in the fields of hydrological extremes, flood risk, and monitoring and modeling of hydrologic and hydraulic processes. Overall, 126 authors from all over Germany are involved in the publication. The publishers are Guy Brasseur, Daniela Jacob, and Susanne Schuck-Zöller, for the Climate Service Center in Hamburg, Germany, a part of the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht, Centre for Materials and Coastal Research.
