27.08.2014: Professor Roel Snieder from Colorado School of Mines, USA, a visionary wave physicist with internationally recognized contributions in fields ranging from acoustics to seismic exploration and seismology is guest as a Humboldt Research Awardee at the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences.

His seminal work on seismic interferometry paved the way for a new branch of exciting techniques and applications that opened up the diffuse part of the elastic wave field for systematic analysis. These new techniques have a wide range of applications, for example material testing, high precision earthquake location, and Earth structure imaging. In Germany Professor Snieder will foster the implementation of the new theoretical developments in seismological and engineering applications.

Professor Snieder is hosted by Dr. Sens-Schönfelder at the GFZ in Potsdam and by Dr. Niederleithinger at the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) in Berlin.
