25.10.2016: The Open Researcher and Contributor ID, in short ORCID, is an ID that helps to connect authors with their publications. Today, ORCID DE and ORCID EU jointly organize the ORCID Outreach Workshop at the GFZ. The Workshop addresses representatives of scientific institutions and their information infrastructure institutions, and discusses the ORCID status quo in Germany.

The unambiguous assignment of a work to its author is one of the biggest challenges of publication management in science. The DFG project ORCID DE faces this challenge. It promotes the ORCID at Universities and non-University research institutions across Germany. Over 2.5 Million researchers already hold this ID.

Each person contributing to the scientific working process can link unambiguously via their ORCID with their own publications, research data, and other products, like software. Thereby, these products become visible and are technically reliable linked with their creator. The workshop participants discuss technical, legal, and organizational questions of ORCID. The workshop furthermore provides thematic fora for mutual exchange. (ak)
