19.05.2015: Dr. Bernhard Steinberger, GFZ section Geodynamic Modelling, has been elected as a foreign member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, in the category "mathematics and science", for his pioneering work on large-scale mantle flow, mantle plumes, plate tectonic reference frames, and true polar wander.

The number of foreign members below the age of 70 in the category mathematics and science is restricted to 100. This emphasizes the great importance of this election and honores the quality of the research of Dr. Steinberger. The ceremony of admission was already held on May 4th, the certificate was handed over by the President of the Academy, Prof. Kirsti Strøm Bull.
