07.09.2015: From September 5 to 11, the 67th annual meeting of the International Committee for Coal and Organic Petrology (ICCP) takes place at GFZ. The ICCP is an expert organisation dealing with standardisation and training as well as research and application in coal petrography.

More than 200 scientists from over 35 countries are members of the ICCP. Since it was founded in 1951, the ICCP standardised the nomenclatur in coal petrography. It instructs specialists and organises annual training courses at the GFZ GeoLab. The ICCP publishes a handbook with terms and methods that serves as a scientific base for several national and international norms like the ISO norms.

This year’s focus of the meeting as well as the training course is “Industrial Applications of Coal Petrography”. About 100 participants are expected to attend the meeting that is opened by Prof. Brian Horsfield, head of GFZ section „Organic Geochemistry“.
