Climate change will have significant impacts on water resources in Central Asia. Glaciers and snow in the mountains of Pamir and Tian Shan are melting faster than expected and this may lead to negative consequences in the region. Therefore, it is important to conduct scientific studies to quantify the impacts and understand the expected changes in order to develop adaptation measures.

Considering this challenge, the Green Central Asia Program was launched in 2020, aims at integrating scientific knowledge on climate, water, and land resources into policy dialogue on climate change adaptation in Central Asia. The Green Central Asia Program is financed by the Federal Foreign Office of Germany.

The Tashkent Water Security Lectures (TWSL) was launched in the frame of the Green Central Asia Program as a platform to discuss climate change related problems among different actors (researchers, policy makers and stakeholders). Due to the pandemic situation in the past years, a series of Tashkent Water Security Lectures was organized as an online event. Considering current situation, the fifth Tashkent Water Security Lectures is planned as a Hybrid Event (online and in-person participation).

Our aim from the fifth Tashkent Water Security Lectures is to bring policy makers and scientific organizations together to minimize potential gaps in communicating climate change and related challenges in water and agricultural sector. Among others, we would like to understand the expectations of the policy level from the scientific community in developing climate change adaptation measures in the frame of this TWSL.
