European Geothermal Congress

The European Geothermal Congress, which will take place at the bbc in Berlin from 17 to 21 October 2022, brings together the entire European geothermal sector and has significance beyond Europe. It is the largest congress of the geothermal sector on the European continent. It is organised every three years by the European Geothermal Energy Council (EGEC), the professional association for geothermal energy in Europe. The declared aim of the association is to promote the geothermal sector in Europe. This year, the GFZ is the main institutional partner of the congress and is heavily involved, among other things, with talks and by leading scientific sessions. The GFZ is also represented at the congress with its own stand.

With a wide range of events for the entire geothermal sector, the congress is a unique opportunity for stakeholders from all areas of the sector - whether science, industry, finance, politics or society - to come together and discuss the latest developments.

As host country of this year's congress, Germany is already one of the leading European markets for geothermal energy. For the use of geothermal energy in district heating and cooling, Germany is the fourth largest market. In terms of planned capacity development, it is the largest European market.
