Marie Skłodowska Curie Actions in Horizon 2020

Under the Marie Curie actions researchers can obtain grants regardless of their age or nationality.  In addition to various scholarships, researchers have the opportunity to gain experiences abroad and in the private sector and to upgrade their training by other skills or disciplines that may be valuable for their career.

Mobility rule for all MarieSkłodowska Curie Actions: Fellow has lived and worked less than 12 Month within the last 3 years in the potential host country.

Structured doctoral training:

Innovative Training Networks (ITN):Phd training programmes
Aim: „to train a new generation of creative, entrepreneurial and innovative early-stage
researchers, able to face current and future challenges and to convert knowledge and ideas into products and services for economic and social benefit”.

ITN project proposals may take one of three forms:

European Training Networks (ETN)

  • Network of three different „beneficiaries“ and „partner organisations“ in different MS and/or AC
  • Employment: 3-36 month for researchers
  • Maximum 540 person-months per network for max. 4 years

European Joint Doctorates(EJD)

  • Network of three different „beneficiaries“ and „partner organisations“ in different MS and/or AC
  • Employment: 3-36 month for researchers
  • Maximum 540 person-months per network for max. 4 years
  • Award of joint, double or multiple degrees
  • At least three beneficiaries must award Phd degrees

European Industrial Doctorates (EID)

  • Network of minimum two different „beneficiaries“ & „partner organisations“ from „academic sector” and „non-academic sector” in different MS and/or AS
  • Employed researchers: at least 50% of their time in the non-academic sector
  • Maximum 180 person-month for max. 4 years
  • Award of the PhD degree by at least one beneficiary

Individual Fellowships (IF):

fellowships for postdocs - international and intersectoral mobility
Aim: „to enhance the creative and innovative potential of experienced researchers wishing to diversify their individual competence in terms of skill acquisition at multi-or interdisciplinary levelthrough advanced training, international and intersectoralmobility”.

There are two types of Individual Fellowships:

European Fellowships (EF)

  • Funding of a postdoc project carried out in MS or AC between 12 and 24 months

Global Fellowships (GF)

  • Funding of a postdoc project carried out in a third country (12-24 months) and MS or AC (return phase: 12 months)
  • Mandatory return phase to MS or AS

Research and Innovation Staff Exchange (RISE): staff exchange

Aim: “funding of building or enhancing new and existing networks of international and inter-sector cooperation”

  • International stream: at least one institution outside Europe and two institutions from different MS and/or AS
  • Intersectoral stream: at least one participant from each of the two sectors and from at least two different MS and/or AS
  • Secondments: between 1 and 12 Months
  • Maximum 540 person-months for maximum 4 years

„Co-funding of regional, national and international programmes“ (COFUND): co-funding of mobility programmes

Aim: „stimulating regional, national or international programmesto foster excellence in researchers' training, mobility and career development”

  • new or currently running doctoral and postdoctoral fellowship programmes with support of the Marie Curie Actions for up to 36-60 months
  • Funding of a legal entities established in an MS or AC that fund or manage doctoral or fellowship programmes for researchers
