Human Resources

The Human Resources team supports the people working at the GFZ and those who are new to join us with advice and services relating to their employment at the GFZ. Together with our leadership and managers at all levels as well as trainers, employees in all organisational units and the committees, we develop attractive career offers and advise on the possibilities of continuous career development. Our expertise is equally available to employees and visiting scientists, as well as to staff financed by budget and third-party funding.

We focus our HR work on these main tasks, among others:

  • Consultancy on organisational and personnel management concepts, tools and applications
  • Organisational development including equal opportunities, diversity, work-life balance and other areas
  • Supporting employment contracts administration for joint appointments
  • Employment contracts, collective bargaining law, labour and social law
  • Administration of salary and remuneration, ancillary activities
  • Human resources management processes and tools, personnel budget controlling, statistics and reports
  • Recruiting and sourcing of new talents for vacant roles
  • Welcome Centre: Advice and support for international employees and guest scientists
  • Talent management, personnel development, training and further education
  • Career advice for postdocs: Career Center
  • GeoGraduates programme for doctoral studies (PhD)
  • Scientific and student assistants
  • Apprenticeship program
  • B.Sc. Computer Sciences in cooperation with the Technical University Brandenburg
  • Internships for pupils and students
  • Voluntary Social Year in Science, Technology and Sustainability (FJN) and Federal Volunteer Service (BFD)
  • Provision of health and social offerings including occupational health care, company sports, company kindergarten
  • Employee survey and workshops on organisational development
  • Administrational support of travel booking processes and expenses
  • IT solutions for personnel administration
  • Coordination with internal co-determination bodies (Staff Council, Equal Opportunities Officer, Disabled Persons Representative, Youth and Trainee Representative)
  • Networking within and outside the GFZ for cooperation in projects and tenders, conceptual further development of personnel work and exchange and transfer of knowledge and expertise
