2023 - Podgorica, Montenegro (Regional Course Balkan)
As a continuation to the online training course realized in 2020, an onsite training course on ‚Seismology and Seismic Hazard Assessment‘, was organizied in Podgorica, Montenegro from October 9 to 28, 2023. This training course was realized in collaboration with EPOS and ORFEUS. Seismological and engineering institutes, mainly from the Balkan region, were invited to nominate engineers and scientists, who are interested in earthquake seismology, seismological monitoring, instrumental micro-zonation studies, strong ground motion analysis and probabilistic seismic hazard assessment.

2020 - online, Regional Course Balkan
The International Training Course "Seismology and Seismic Hazard Assessment" was opened on October 26th, 2020. 20 participants took part in the training course, which was implemented as an internet-online course due to the corona crisis. For two weeks the participants were briefed by experts from GFZ and European partners in the fields of seismology, engineering seismology, seismic hazard assessment and InSAR monitoring. The 2020 course was originally intended to take place in Argentina as a regional course for Latin America. This planning had to be canceled in the summer due to the Corona crisis. As an alternative, a regional Balkan course was planned and institutes from the Balkans were invited to nominate course participants. This GFZ initiative was gladly accepted. The 20 participants came from Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Slovenia and Lithuania.
