The geoscientific information platform (Earth System Knowledge Platform, ESKP) is providing generally understandable information from the participating Helmholtz Centres for different stakeholders (e. g. Ministries, public authorities, decision makers, journalists, public), within the frame of the cross-programme activities of the Helmholtz Association. Cascading natural hazards or environmental risks, can't be evaluated as single events by one section, they rather need the expertise of different scientific experts. The same applies for slowly progressive processes such as the climate change and its different aftereffects. Correlations and consequences require the pooling of expertise. Therefore the holistic approach, analyses, and interpretation of event chains is the most evident benefit of this platform.
ESKP is providing not only fast and comprehensive information, but also well-grounded background information in cases of events as well as for the society relevant topics and questions. In the beginning the partners concentrate on the topics "natural hazards/meteorological extreme events", "consequences of the climate change" and "pollutant dispersion".
