Centre for GeoInformation Technology CeGIT

Head: Prof. Joachim Wächter

The aim of modern Geosciences is the holistic understanding of the system 'Earth' and its transformations in order to derive answers to global challenges. Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) have a key role in this context.

The Center for GeoInformationTechnology CeGIT is the competence center for computer science in the Geosciences. The objective of CeGIT is the creation of a future-oriented eScience-platform for Geosciences based on the latest developments in ICT. Existing sensor and monitoring systems are combined with data management systems into new, virtual Earth Observation Systems for global phenomena. The work of CeGIT reflects the latest developments in eInfrastructure and Geoscience initiatives such as GEOSS and INSPIRE.

Current projects include the development of new approaches and technologies for intelligent geo-information management in complex and critical decision-making processes in Earth sciences (TRIDEC) and the development of a framework for a multi-disciplinary Research Data Infrastructure (Radieschen).

The Zeigertelegraph-Blog, maintained by CeGIT members, reports news and trends in the field of Geoinformation Technologies and beyond. You can subscribe to the Zeigertelegraph by RSS feed.
