Earth system modeling

Advances in computer technology in the past years have clearly increased the ability to reproduce earth processes in time and space. In oil exploration, subsurface models are so far used primarily for global resource assessment, ignoring the gas that was released to the atmosphere or preserved in gas hydrate. This part of the equation, however, is the key to understand the gas hydrate system and today’s methane budget.
