Gas-Source Rock Correlation in Geologically Complex Scenarios
Goals
Natural gases often originate from more than one source, and from numerous generation pulses. The purpose of this project is to document the stable carbon isotopic composition of C1-C4 components generated from selected source rocks as a function of thermal stress to help deconvolute accumulation histories. Samples have been gathered from three different regions where multiple source rocks are known to have generated the accumulated oil and gas. Basic source rock properties have been evaluated using pyrolysis gas chromatography and Rock-Eval/TOC. Gaseous hydrocarbons from MSSV pyrolysis and their carbon isotopic compositions have been quantified. PhaseKinetics parameters have also been measured in order to help assess the PVT behaviour of liquid and gaseous components.
