Petroleum Systems of Syria - Oil families
Oil families - To date, hydrocarbon biomarkers have been used to quantify inputs from Cretaceous and Silurian sources, ascertain average maturity and infer source rock depositional environments. We are using certain oxygen-containing (xanthones, aldehydes, fluorenones, benzofluorenones) and nitrogen-containing compounds (carbazoles, benzocarbazoles) occurring in the low polarity NSO fraction to examine these oil families in more detail and provide a more comprehensive insight into the primary and secondary controls of oil composition.

FundingThis project is part of major bilateral cooperation between Syria and Germany. The funding of two Ph.D positions comes from Syria. Shell is co-supervising both studies.
