Geochemical monitoring of Seismicity in Western Anatolia

Tübitak

This Turkish-German joint research project aims the geochemical monitoring of seismicity via gas geochemistry of the hydrothermal fluids along the eastern end of the Büyük Menderes Graben, Western Anatolia. The area comprises the highest enthalpy geothermal fields in Turkey and has been a site of frequent earthquakes (M=4-5) since 2000. On-line monitoring of the gas composition, flow, and fluid temperature is performed since Nov 2007 near the Kizildere geothermal field. Off-line gas samples were taken in regular intervals for noble gas characterization.
