Scientific interests:
Ernst Huenges, since 1994 head of section Reservoir Technologies in the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences, is a qualified physicist and process engineer. His numerous scientific papers refer to Earth's transport processes and in the recent years he is concentrated on the utilization of underground resources. He is head of the petrophysical laboratories at the GFZ and involved in a number of scientific deep drilling projects. He and his co-workers develop stimulation techniques to enhance the fluid productivity of reservoirs (Enhanced Geothermal Systems) and to guarantee a long-term extraction of geothermal energy. The multidisciplinary working group binds basic and applied research focusing on new technologies for an economical exploration and utilization of geothermal energy for power supply, heating and/or cooling.
Career:
05/1977 to 10/1977
Laboratory engineer at the company Vaillant in Remscheid.
03/1984 to 07/1987
Mineralogical Institut of the University Bonn.
08/1987 to 09/1988
Institut for Applied Geophysics at the Technical University Berlin: development of an instrument to measure thermal conductivity of rocks.
