HELGES - Helmholtz Laboratory for the Geochemistry of the Earth Surface

With the beginning of 2013, more than 200 m2 of lab space will be available to Sektion 3.4. The space will include 1 clean lab, class 1000+, for stable isotope preparation. Methods include Fe, Mg, Li, and Si-Isotopes. Coupled to an ICP-MS, a femto-second-laser-ablation system will be available to conduct these methods in solution and directly from solid state. In addition, this lab space will include 1 clean lab for cosmogenic nuclide analysis, such as 10Be and 26Al. Bulk elemental analysis will be carried out by ICP-OES. Mineral separation and normal chemical laboratories for sample preparation will also be available.
